Independence Hall

Waking up in the big city.  It always gets me when you look out the window and only see other buildings.  The great thing about our view was that the buildings are so old and beautiful.  We ate breakfast again at the hotel and set off for the Liberty Bell.  We were able to go right in.  Cambelle was a little disappointed because she thought that we were going to be able to go up into the tower.  The bell is cool to look at, so much history.

We had tickets to go to Independence Hall at 10:30 we walked over and made it in time to wander around the grounds a little.  Of course Troy made friends, he always makes friends.  I was able to take pictures and soak it in.  The tour is short about 20-30 minutes but it is powerful.  We stood in the assembly room and I thought of the men that met there.  Ben Franklin, George Washington, Thomas Jefferson.  I thought of the work that they did and the courage they displayed.  I am so grateful for the part they played in the freedom that I enjoy today.  I found the tour and being in the room where the Declaration of Independence was inspiring, to think of all that they were willing to do.

We then walked over to the burial place of Benjamin Franklin, I love cemeteries.  We visited with one of the workers there and he explained that the pennies thrown on the marker were for good luck.  In the past brides would throw a coin for good luck on their way to the church to get married.  Now it is a symbol for good luck for anyone.  They gather around 4,000 dollars every year from the change left.   We were getting a little tired at that point so we chose to forgo the rest of the sites, but trust me, you could stay in Philadelphia for a week and not see everything.  We of course stopped at the gift shop, Cambelle is collecting key chains.
